Dr. Taro Kurusu moved to Knoxville in 2002 from Nashville,
TN where he was a Staff Psychologist for the Vanderbilt
University Psychological and Counseling Center. His
interest areas include: individual, group, marriage, and
family therapy; how the "shoulds" of life, our fears (e.g., not
being good enough, being alone, making a mistake, being
rejected, etc.), and misconceptions about religion can
make us feel depressed, anxious, and/or stuck; relationship
issues including boundaries, interpersonal communication,
and misconceptions about forgiveness; grief; geriatric
issues; career issues, and adoption issues. He also enjoys
providing supervision. It is important for him that people
from all walks of life know that they are welcomed,
accepted, and valued for who they are without judgment or
condemnation.
Dr. Kurusu received his Bachelor's Degree from Emory
University in Atlanta, GA and received his Master's Degree
and Doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond, VA. He has been married to his wife Niki since
1994. They have two children.
