Laura was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee. Soon after she trained to be a Certified Child Life Specialist. Laura spent nine years at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, where she deeply valued the opportunity to support patients and families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
In 2020, Laura relocated to Virginia, and began working for the Christian non-profit organization Edify. It was during her time there that she felt a profound calling to pursue a career in counseling. After returning to Tennessee, she enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Belmont University, completing the Marriage and Family Therapy track—a path that aligns closely with her professional background and passion for working with children and families. Laura chose this specialization because she believes in viewing individuals within the context of their relationships and environments, allowing for a more holistic and compassionate approach to care.
Laura considers the therapy room a sacred space and is honored to walk alongside her clients in their healing journeys. She strives to create an environment where individuals feel safe, valued, and heard. We all encounter suffering but we don’t have to endure it alone.
Laura is currently working toward licensure under the supervision of Sarah Criss, PhD, LMFT (License #1077). Dr. Criss can be contacted at SarahCrissCounseling@gmail.com or 615-283-0531.
