Mary Blake is currently pursuing a M.A. in Clinical Counseling at Johnson University and anticipates graduating in August 2024. She previously received her bachelor's degree in Special Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She taught children with emotional and behavioral disorders and learning disabilities. After teaching, she spent a few years in Thailand working at an aftercare ministry for survivors of sexual exploitation. Through each of these experiences, God nurtured a desire in her to deepen her understanding of walking alongside others and to pursue the field of counseling.

Mary Blake works with a wide variety of ages ranging from children through adulthood. Her areas of clinical focus include trauma, abuse, grief and loss, betrayal, anxiety, depression, shame, cross-cultural transitions, and spirituality.

Mary Blake seeks to listen, comfort, challenge, and encourage her clients as they navigate life’s challenges. She longs to sit in the uncomfortable, painful places with others to help them find peace and healing.

Mary Blake deeply values healing through relationships, and leans towards a relational style of counseling. She is drawn to the approaches of emotional focused therapy and attachment-based therapy as she seeks to help her clients further deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them. As a Christian counselor, she values and respects each client’s background, perspective, experience, and beliefs.

Through both her personal and professional experience in counseling, she recognizes the immense courage it takes to step into the counseling room. She longs to provide a listening ear and empathetic presence as clients share the rawest parts of themselves. Mary Blake seeks to create a safe space for you to enter into, and she believes it is a true honor to sit with clients and be invited into these vulnerable spaces.

Outside of the counseling room, you may find her learning a new recipe, getting out in nature, or sharing a cup of coffee with a friend. She loves time spent creating, exploring new cultures, and anytime she gets with her friends and family. She treasures time with her husband, Luke, and their two sweet dogs!
